This rare atlas by Charles Lubrecht includes 63 of 64 single-page maps (missing Georgia) and 2 double-page maps of the United States and Europe. The maps and plates have been colored by hand, which is unusual for this late date as most publishers had moved to cheaper, faster, printed color. In addition to the maps, tables and diagrams, there are a number of vivid illustrations that make this a very attractive and unusual late 19th century atlas. All but one illustration is present (missing Southern Scenes) including The Postman of the Desert, The Great East River Suspension Bridge, and The Dairy Farm. 168 pages. Folio, with frontispiece, pictorial title page, contents, text, maps, and illustrations. Hardbound in brown cloth with gilt title and illustration on front cover.

Condition: B

The maps and plates range from good to near fine, with most of the maps being very good. The one exception is the sheet containing maps of Maine (recto)/New Hampshire & Vermont (verso), which has a long tear across the images that has been repaired with old tape (C+). Several other maps have small old tape repairs just into the image border including Minnesota, Virginia, Mexico, Europe, and Switzerland. A number of other pages also have mostly minor repairs in the margins using old tape. Text block is cracked and the hinges are starting. Covers are stained and worn along the edges.
