This frontispiece comes from Johnson's American Atlas and shows Native Americans on a high vantage point looking down at the European settlers' rapid westward expansion. In the background are many symbols of development including a railroad, a steamship, a developing town, and a farm. Drawn by Carl Emil Doepler and engraved by C. Wise.

Condition: B+

On a lightly toned sheet with light foxing and soiling that is mostly confined to the margins. There are a couple edge tears in the bottom margin that have been closed on verso with archival tape.
