This striking topographical map of Switzerland shows the routes taken by William Coxe between 1776-86. Coxe was an English historian and priest who traveled extensively throughout Europe as a tutor and traveling companion to various noblement. He accompanied Lord Hebert on his travels around the Swiss and French Alps, and subsequently published a detailed account of his journey. The map is densely engraved with information on cities, roads (marked with zigzag lines), political boundaries, rivers, lakes and topography. Printed on two sheets, joined.
A nice impression on bright sheets with light soiling, a bit of toning along the joint at bottom, an extraneous horizontal crease, and a repaired chip in the bottom margin. The joint is coming a little loose at top.
