This wall map of the world was issued by the Toronto-based Manufacturers Life Insurance Company. The map is nicely detailed, with a key indicating naval stations, fortified points, railways, trade routes, and the proposed route for the Cape to Cairo Railway in Africa, which was never completed. Distances between major ports are noted on the trade routes. The map doubles as a calendar for the year of 1928, with six stapled sheets (two months per sheet) below the map. An illustration of the company's head office appears above the map. While examples of these Manufacturers Life Insurance Company promotional maps are available on the market from the 1950s, we have not been able to locate another example as early as this one. The entire sheet measures 22.9 x 23.3".
