The geography of this uncommon and attractive Italian map of Africa is relatively accurate, with detail confined to the regions actually known. It correctly traces the origin of the Blue Nile to an unnamed lake (Lake Tana) near Guender (Gondar). Stellenbosch is the only inland place name appearing in South Africa. The large title cartouche features an allegorical representation of Africa, portrayed as a maiden holding elephant ivory, together with a lion, crocodile and a snake-like dragon.

A nice impression on a sheet with a Strasbourg bend and lily watermark. There is a 4" centerfold separation at bottom that has been professionally repaired on verso, as well as a hint of toning along the centerfold.
