This is Rapin de Thoyras' History of England, translated into English by Nicholas Tindal. The two-volume set includes 4 folding maps and numerous genealogical charts, portraits, and engravings of monuments to British royalty. The maps are:

A. Britannia Romana (10.8 x 15")
B. A New Map of England Scotland and Ireland (13.3 x 15.4")
C. Britannia Saxonica (11.2 x 13.8")
D. A New and Correct Map of France (14.7 x 11.4")

Folio. Volume I: title page; viii; 849 pp.; 4 folding maps; 40 full-page plates; 9 genealogical tables (several folding). Volume II: title page; 807 pp.; index; 15 pp.; 18 full-page plates (missing the portrait of Henry Duke of Gloucester); 1 folding genealogical table. Hardbound in full contemporary leather with raised bands, gilt tooling, and red leather title labels on spines.

Condition: B+

The maps are in very good condition with occasional toning, foxing, soiling and minor extraneous creasing. The plates and text are in excellent condition, with very occasional and minor foxing or soiling. The first three pages of Volume I are heavily creased. In Volume II there are some small worm tracks along the gutter of the title page, first two engraved portraits, and first page of text. The front hinges of both volumes are nearly perished. The covers are heavily worn with abrasions and bumped corners. The spines are cracking and have some small abrasions.
