This scarce bird's-eye view of the Kriegsschauplatz (theater of war) is centered on Washington with north oriented to the bottom. The view extends from Baltimore and Harper's Ferry south to include Richmond, Petersburg and Norfolk with well-rendered rivers and topography throughout. Cities consist of individually drawn buildings that collectively convey size, with the Capitol Building and Washington Monument (in its original design) prominently depicted. Distances from Baltimore and Washington are indicated below the view. While the orientation is different, this view appears to be based upon John Bachmann's Panorama of the Seat of War, Birds Eye View of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia first issued in 1861.
