This is a simplified and smaller version of Jodocus Hondius' map of Brazil from 1630, with north oriented to the right. Detail is confined to the coasts with numerous place names, while a strapwork cartouche fills the interior. Engraved by Petrus Kaerius (Pieter van den Keere). This map is quite uncommon as it was only published in the German text editions of the Atlas Minor between 1648-51.

References: Van der Krogt (Vol. III) #9850:352.1.

Condition: B+

A dark impression on a watermarked sheet with show-through of text on verso, remnants of hinge tape on verso, and several small worm tracks in the blank margins, one of which enters the map border at bottom left.

Estimate: $160 - $190
