This volume was written by C.M. Chase, a Vermont newspaper editor, and describes his trip across the Great Plains to New Mexico and Colorado through a series of 28 letters to readers. Among the letters are descriptions of a trip to the mines via wagon, observations on the pueblos, land grants, pioneers and sketches of many towns visited, including Albuquerque. The author states "any one thinking of emigrating to any of the towns among the foot hills of the Rocky Mountains, can read this book and know all about this country and its inducements before he starts." First edition, printed at the “Argus and Patriot” Steam Press and Job Printing House. Octavo, 233 pages with original comic pictorial wrappers. Appears to be signed by the author on the front cover.
