"[Lot of 2] Western Hemisphere - The World in Equal Quarters - Sharpe's Projection [and] Eastern Hemisphere - The World in Equal Quarters - Sharpe's Projection", Chapman & Hall

This uncommon set of maps was engraved by J. Wilson Lowry for Sharpe's Corresponding Atlas. The hemispheres are depicted in Sharpe's own unusual proprietary projection which divides the map into sections similar to a globe gore. The Western Hemisphere sheet is divided into two larger maps, Polynesia - Bhering's Strait and America - North and South, with a smaller segment at top showing the North Pole. On the Americas map, the Independent Republic of Texas is shown with its stovepipe configuration. Alaska is Russian America. The Eastern Hemisphere sheet is split into Europe - Western Asia - Africa and Central Asia - Australia, with another segment at top detailing the North Pole.

The maps are on lightly toned sheets with light soiling and some small chips and edge tears, a few of which cross into the neatline at bottom. Some of the tears have been closed on verso primarily with hinge tape.
