Despite its suggestive title, this volume is a thoughtful and comprehensive guide for newcomers, containing the usual information and much more not usually found in such guides. It contains a three-page section on Cost of Living with costs on one page and a two page list of what wage earners can expect for various professions. Six types of carpenters are listed along with three types of painters and four classes of plumbers (pages 51-53). The Pacific Coast League baseball schedule is also shown. The anonymous editor interjects some occasional commentary, including a two-page diatribe under the title “Monthly Sermon” critical of wealthy Americans for marrying Europeans for a title: “When a father and a mother trade their daughter, pure, clean and lovable for a cheap title that, at its best, isn’t worth a pound of good Chicago beefsteak, they are committing an act that is anything but humane, American and intelligent" (pages 15-16). While there are numerous references within the text that 8,000 copies were published, it apparently is rare with the only reference to it being the copyright issued to the Los Angeles Printing Co. 64 pages with a small centerfold map of Southern California. Compiled by the Los Angeles Printing Co. Printed paper wrappers.
