The SS Anglo Saxon was a passenger steamship operated by the the Montreal Ocean Steamship Company. On 16 April 1863 it departed Liverpool, England with 445 passengers on board headed for Quebec, Canada. On 27 April 1863 the ship encountered heavy fog and struck the rocks at Clam Cove, Newfoundland, four miles north of Cape Race. The ship sank within an hour and 237 lives were lost, making this one of the deadliest shipwrecks in Canada's history. Published by F. Sala & Co. in Berlin.
