"Lamina XXVIII Geographica",

This fascinating engraving was published in Juan Caramuel de Lobkowitz' ambitious work on architecture, in which he argued the superiority of "oblique" architecture over "straight" architecture (such as Vitruvian). The work was divided into nine books, with the first four dedicated to all the knowledge required by an architect to design a building, including mathematics and other sciences.

The top half of this engraving shows a map of most of France with key cities and the Seine River identified. Also included on the sheet are map projections, three-dimensional shapes, and a diagram that shows the proportional sizes and distances of the planets.
