"[War of 1812] Jefferson Against Madison's War, Being an Exhibition of the Late President Jefferson's Opinions of the Impolicy, and Folly of All Wars, Especially for the United States, Together with Some Remarks on the Present War...",
This anonymous author, likely from Massachusetts, opposes the War of 1812, blames it on President Madison, and urges Madison's replacement with Governor DeWitt Clinton of New York. Madison "has departed from all the old and excellent and prudent maxims which have endeared Mr. Jefferson to the republican party." Indeed, "he has gone directly counter" to them. Jefferson understood that "wars are fatal to a young, growing, agricultural and commercial nation-- they are still more fatal to a republican one." 20 pages, paper wrappers. This is apparently the first issue without the pasted correction in the “N.B.” section.
