"Die Heylige und Weitberuhmte Stadt Jerusalem Erstlich Genant Salem...",

This rare map was published in a German bible by Johann Detleffsen in Minden, and is a close but slightly larger copy of Nicolas Visscher's map first published around 1650. This imaginary bird's-eye view provides great detail of the city walls and streets, with 36 principal sites numbered and keyed to a table in a scroll at left, which is held aloft by a putto. Solomon's Temple is at upper center and Herod's Palace is located at the far left. Detleffsen added the unique title cartouche featuring nearly 20 angels and the frame-style border around the map.
