This "newsmap" was issued on Monday, August 28, 1944, and covers the news from August 9-16, 1944 - the 258th week of the war. The recto contains maps of the Pacific theater of war and "Southern France" to augment the text. The verso contains a colorful map of the Philippines, providing topography detail with a three-dimensional quality. Prepared by the Army Information Branch and issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office.
From 1942-46, the U.S. Army published "newsmaps" to keep American troops updated on the war. These weekly posters were distributed and posted in every American installation in the world and were intentionally more visual than descriptive to help engage and motivate personnel.
Issued folding with light toning. There are small fold separations at right, left, and center, and a pair of 2" tears perpendicular to the vertical fold.
