A. Constantinople with Its Suburbs, by William Orr, from The British Cyclopaedia of Literature, History, Geography, Law, and Politics, circa 1836 (10.3 x 8.4"). This detailed plan of Constantinople (Istanbul) extends to show Galata on the Golden Horn and Scutari (Uskudar) on the Anatolian shore of the Bosporus. Keys in the bottom corners identify 40 sites of interest, including Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Galata Tower, and a number of embassies. There is a lovely view of the Topkapi Palace, or the Seraglio, at bottom. Drawn and engraved by J. Dower. Condition: There is a hint of offsetting and very minor toning along the centerfold.

B. Constantinople; with the Thracian Bosphorus, by George Virtue, circa 1838 (7.3 x 9.3"). This handsome map centers on the Bosporus and depicts Constantinople in miniature plan form. It extends north to the Black Sea and identifies rivers, roads, and nearby place names. An inset at bottom right zooms in on the Princes' Islands. Engraved by William Hughes. Condition: There are a few minor spots in map image and toning along the edges of the sheet.
