This satirical map depicts the United States as Uncle Sam, with his face represented on the state of Washington, wearing a golden crown of Alaska and the Klondike region. The map mocks the large migration of American prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush, a precursor to the Nome Gold Rush in Alaska, which began a year after this map was published. The states are each misshapen, and many remain unnamed. Created by Grant E. Hamilton and published in Judge magazine, a weekly satirical magazine published in the US from 1881-1947. Lithographed by Sackett & Wilhelms. Additional text and cartoon on verso.
