This lot includes three souvenir route maps from American Airlines.

A. American Airlines Directions, circa 1969 (27.5 x 20.9"). The map of the United States, Mexico, and part of Canada highlights national parks and forests, Indian reservations, wild life refuges, and more. The verso includes stunning illustrations by Doug Johnson that depict points of interest in New York and the Northeast, California, Mexico, and Arizona in psychedelic Pop Art-style. Promotional text includes information on national parks, notes to the first-time passenger, a primer on how jet engines function, and a timeline of American Airlines' "record of 'firsts'" that goes from 1934 to 1969. Condition: Issued folding with minor wear. (A)

B. American Airlines Route Map, dated 1974 (29.5 x 18.1"). This map highlights the routes in the United States, Mexico, and southern Canada, with 8 inset maps at bottom right showing routes in the Caribbean. A photo-collage on the verso highlights various travel destinations surrounded by copy touting different travel packages. The text references the all-cargo Boeing 747, which American began to utilize in November 1974. Condition: Issued folding with minor wear. (A)

C. American Airlines System Map, by Rand McNally & Company, dated 1959 (36.0 x 24.0"). This pamphlet includes maps: Eastern United States (36.0 x 24.0"); Western United States (27.0 x 24.0"); and Mexico (9.0 x 8.0"), with two additional reference maps. The key notes the high speed of the Boeing 707 compared to other planes. In January 1959, American became the first airline to offer coast-to-coast jet service with the 707. Copy on the back of the pamphlet prepares passengers for the "new standards for speed, comfort and dependability" to be established by American's "great Jet Fleet," to be completed in 1962. Condition: Issued folding with some minor fold separations, tiny chips in the corners, and a small spot. (B+)
