One of the Latest Examples of Lake Parime

"Caraccas and Guiana", Thomson, John

This may be one of the last maps to show the fabled Lake Parima, which had mostly disappeared from maps in the late 18th century and was officially disproved by Alexander von Humboldt's expedition through Latin America from 1799-1804. The map extends from Lake Maracaibo to the mouth of the Amazon River, and focuses on topographical detail and watershed. Hundreds of spurious rivers fill the region southwest of Venezuela.
