This decorative map covers the coastline of present-day Tunisia and Libya. It is based on Ortelius' map of the same title, which in turn was based on Gastaldi's great map of Africa and the ancient texts of Diodorus, Siculus, Plinius, Virgilius, Appianus, Halicarnasseus, Athenaeus, and Herodotus. The map extends to include Sicily and Malta. Richly embellished with a fine title cartouche and a large text block enclosed in a strapwork cartouche. Dutch text on verso.

References: Van der Krogt (Vol. I) #8610H:1.

Condition: A

A nice impression with very minor offsetting and show-through of text on verso. There are several small chips and tears along the edges of the sheet, some of which have been closed on verso with archival materials.
