This is the eighth edition, revised to 1885 and is complete with 83 single-page and 19 double-page cerographic maps, diagrams and illustrations (maps by George Cram). The atlas includes individual maps for each U.S. state and territory, the Canadian provinces, the world, and continents. It also includes dozens of engraved vignettes of distant civilizations, architecture, wildlife, landscapes, etc. interspersed throughout the text. There are also illustrations of state seals and the flags of various nations. Double-page maps are folded and pasted to a backstrap and most maps are printed back to back. 362 pages with numerous illustrations. Small folio. Hardbound in quarter leather and tips over brown cloth with gilt stamped title on front cover.
The text and maps are clean and bright with just a hint of pleasant light toning. Covers are lightly worn and stained with bumped edges and small chips at the head and tail of the spine.
