This impressive and complete nine-sheet map of London is absolutely filled with information including boroughs, streets, parks, railways, canals, docks, gardens, and more. Among the sites of interest located are St. Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, and Buckingham Palace. This set of maps appeared in the Weekly Dispatch Atlas, which was published in monthly segments for subscribers of the Weekly Dispatch newspaper. The monthly editions eventually grew to include maps covering most of the known world. The maps from this series bear the distinctive sign of a half globe with the figure of Mercury above the title.

Condition: B

All nine sheets have been backed with tissue to reinforce and repair numerous small chips and edge tears primarily confined to the blank margins. A 9" x 3" section at the lower right of the south east sheet has been replaced with similar paper, resulting in some loss of image, however with border seamlessly reinstated in facsimile. Light soiling and occasional toning.
