Very interesting small map depicting the breadth of the continent too narrowly and the Salomon Islands too near to South America. Place names are abundant, particularly along the coastlines. Routes of Pacific explorers are shown. A huge pictorial cartouche takes in nearly a quarter of the sheet and features a variety of native occupations, a mermaid, sailing ships, and wildlife. Engraved by Tobias Conrad Lotter.

References: Phillips (A) #3494-8.

Condition: B

A moderately toned, watermarked sheet with original color in the map and later color in the cartouche. There is minor scattered foxing, light soiling, and a few small worm holes.

Estimate: $140 - $170

Sold for: $100
