This map was included in the commissioner's annual report of 1866, which was the first year that large colored state maps were issued by the General Land Office. Delineated by county, the map identifies land grant railroads with both 6 and 15 mile limits along their paths, as well as numerous other railroads throughout the state. Copper and lead deposits are identified through color and notes to the left of the image indicate widespread locations of iron, bituminous coal and lead. Lithographed by Bowen & Co. in Philadelphia.
