A. The Discovery of North America, by W.P. Cumming, R.A. Skelton, and D.B. Quinn, published 1972 (9.3 x 12.1"). This extensive textual history, profusely illustrated, covers early explorations across the Atlantic to 1633. It is an important reference for any library. 304 pp. with 370 plates, 75 in color. Hardbound in black cloth with gilt titles and an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents good with light toning along the sheets' edges. Covers very good. The dust jacket is lightly soiled with a few chips. (B+)

B. The Mapping of North America - Three Centuries of Map-Making 1500-1860, by John Goss, published 1990 (10.4 x 14.4"). By focusing on the evolution of mapping, this book reveals how the perceptions of the world changed as more areas were explored. It contains many of the most important and famous maps of the Americas as well as some of the more common nineteenth century examples. 184 pp, introduction plus 85 full-page illustrations, of which 80 are in color, each with well researched information. Hardbound in cloth with illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents very good with faint toning along the sheets' edges and minor extraneous creases in the pages' top corner. There is minor wear to the covers and dust jacket. (A)
