"Panorama de la Ville de Jerusalem a l'Epoque de la Mort de N.S. Jesus-Christ",

This uncommon and handsome view of Jerusalem depicts the city's landmarks, buildings, fortifications, and outskirts in exquisite detail. The city is laid out on a grid with the coordinates of various sites of interest listed around the view. A historical note appears at bottom. In the foreground at left is Golgotha, distinguished by a trio of crucifixes. The view was published by Maison Bouasse-Lebel, a printing company founded by Eulalie Lebel in 1845, after her marriage to Francois-Marie Bouasse disintegrated. The company specialized in printing religious images. It was not until Lebel's son Henri took over the company in 1852 that it began producing maps, books, and encyclopedias, such as the one in which this view was published.
