"The County of Monmouth", Morden, Robert
Period: 1695 (circa)
Publication: Camden's Britannia
Color: Hand Color
16.4 x 13.8 inches
41.7 x 35.1 cm
Copper engraved county map with nice detail throughout, including two major roads. Morden was one of the first English cartographers to show longitudes measured from the meridian of St. Paul's Cathedral (shown in degrees at the bottom of the map) and time in minutes measured locally from the sun (shown at the top). The imprint of Abel Swale, Awnsham & John Churchil is at lower left.
A sharp impression with attractive color on watermarked paper. There is a centerfold separation that enters 1/2" into image at top that has been closed on verso with archival tape.
