"[Lot of 2] Bohn's Hand-Book of Washington... [and] Roose's Companion and Guide to Washington and Vicinity",

The first of these Washington guides is Bohn's 1856 edition which contains a frontispiece of the Capital Building and a detailed map of Washington entitled Map of the City of Washington in the District of Columbia. The second is a Washington D.C. guide book with numerous full page and in text illustrations. Of primary interest is the detailed map entitled Roose's Companion and Guide Map of Washington and Vicinity.

A. Map of the City of Washington in the District of Columbia U. States of America, by Casimir Bohn, from Bohn's Hand-Book of Washington, published 1856 (15.9 x 11.8"). 16mo, includes 119 pp. of text. All edges gilt. Condition: The map is lightly toned with a few spots of foxing and a 3.5" binding tear closed on verso with archival tape. There is a little foxing to the frontispiece. Gilt embossed covers are very good. (B)

B. Roose's Companion and Guide Map of Washington, and Vicinity, by W.S. Roose, from Roose's Companion and Guide to Washington and Vicinity, published 1885 (20.4 x 15.3"). 16mo, includes 143 pp. of tex and illustrations. Condition: Map is very clean but a somewhat weak impression with a professionally repaired binding tear that runs alongside the neatline at bottom left. Covers are lightly worn. (B+)
