This complete atlas contains 52 single and 37 double-page maps focused mostly on the United States. The maps are hand colored which is quite unusual for such a late publication date. Includes the very attractive and colorful Gray’s Geological Map of the United States based upon Hitchcock that depicts nine different geologic formations. The map of Texas and Indian Territory... shows Oklahoma Territory along with insets of Austin, Galveston, the South Part of Texas, and Matagorda Bay. A number of city plans are also shown including Baltimore, Boston, New York and San Francisco. Folio, with title page, table of contents, descriptions and maps. Hardbound in green cloth with quarter leather and tips and gilt title on front cover and spine.

This example appears to be a presentation piece with all edges gilt (a.e.g.) and a dedication in the front endpapers to Mary Linton Stiteler by O.W. Gray on April 11th, 1894. A previous owner has also pasted a newspaper article on the inside back cover from the June 12, 1915 issue of the Philadelphia Saturday Morning regarding the unveiling of a monument in West Chester dedicated to the region's war heroes.

Condition: B+

Almost all of the maps are in near fine condition with some occasional light toning, primarily along the sheet edges. The hemispheric world map is heavily and unevenly toned where an unrelated sheet was laid between the maps. Covers and spine are bumped and worn with several abrasions.
