"Mappe-Monde Dressee Suivant les Nouvelles Relations et Assujettie aux Observations Astronomiques", Robert de Vaugondy/Delamarche

This is an unusual state of this attractive double hemisphere world map first issued in 1749, similar to the fifth state but not identified in Pedley. The South Pacific reflects the latest discoveries of Captain Cook, as it does in the fourth and fifth states, but Cook's discoveries are not noted in the title cartouche as they are in the fifth state. The Pacific Northwest is more up-to-date than the fourth state, with no mention of the Northwest Passage, but the area is paradoxically filled with more notations here than in later examples. The tracks of explorations and trade routes are shown in detail throughout, although some routes labeled in the fifth state run without notation here. The large title cartouche is draped with a garland of flowers. Originally by the Robert de Vaugondy family, this map was reissued by their successor, Charles Francois Delamarche.
