This engraving presents an exciting scene from the Second Battle of Galveston, as Confederates overtake a Union gunboat on the night of New Year's Day, 1863. Colorful prose beneath the engraving describes how the battle unfolded. From a collection of Civil War-themed plates originally published in Frank Leslie's popular Illustrated Newspaper. Four smaller Civil War scenes appear on verso.
A nice impression with two small pieces of archival tape closing tears at the bottom edge on recto, light toning along the centerfold, some printer's ink residue, and some small chips and tears along the sheet's edges.
