This map of eastern Africa depicts the travels of Antonio Fernandes, a Portuguese Jesuit missionary, from Ombrama to Chicoua in the early seventeenth century. The twin lakes of Zaflan and Zaire are shown as the origins of the Nile. A pictorial title cartouche shows a king receiving visitors.
