"Dept. de la Loire Infre", Levasseur, Victor

Victor Levasseur's "Atlas National Illustre" and "Atlas Universel Illustre" are among the last decorative atlases published. The maps are all lavishly illustrated with scenes of the countryside, products and activities indigenous to the region.

Loire-Inférieure, now known as Loire-Atlantique, is known for its shellfish, sea salt, and Muscadet wines. The vineyard country southeast of Nantes produces the region's best Muscadet, which is dominated by wines of the Melon de Bourgogne grape. The area's four appellation are Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine, Muscadet-Côtes de Grand Lieu, Muscadet-Coteaux de la Loire, and Muscadet - A generic appellation covering the whole of the Loire-Atlantique department. Grapevines drape across the top of the map and wine bottles appear among the regions products at the bottom. A terrific map for the wine connoisseur.
