Merian's panoramic view of Rome is a reduction of Antonio Tempesta's monumental map of 1593. Oriented with north to the left, it shows the city at the height of the Italian Renaissance. The projection provides a particularly graphic view of many of the important buildings, churches and monuments, including many that have subsequently been demolished. Printed on two joined sheets, as issued.
