These exquisite aquatints are from one of the finest bird books ever produced. The Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux de Paradis... marks the high-point of Levaillant's ornithological career and is the finest example of Jacques Barraband's brilliance as a bird artist. The plates were engraved by Peree and Gremillier after Barraband's drawings, and were printed in color by Rousset, and then finished by hand. This lot includes: Le Coq de roche femelle. No. 52, Le Superbe dans l'etat du repos. No. 16, and Le Calibe male. No. 23.
