This lot contains several editions of Mercator's famous Atlas title page.

1) L'Atlas ou Meditations Cosmographiques de la Fabrique du Monde…, published by Jodocus Hondius, 1613. (9.3 x 15.3") Colored. The naked figure of Magalanica has had her genitilia inked (a common practice during Victorian times). There is a hard crease in the top right corner and several marginal tears.
2) Atlas Novus sive Descriptio Geographica Totius Orbis Terrarum…, published by Henricus Hondius and Jan Jansson, 1638. (9.5 x 14.5") The sheet is toned with the past-downs containing the title and imprint a lighter tone due to the difference in papers used. There are some stains in the margins.
3) Atlantis Novi Pars Tertia, Italiam, Graeciam, published by Henricus Hondius, 1638. (9.3 x 15.3") The sheet is toned with the past-downs containing the title a lighter tone due to the difference in papers used. Margins have been extended at side evidently for a previous binding. There is loss of image in the niche containing Magalanica.
4) Atlas or a Geographicke description…, published by Henricus Hondius, 1636. (9.3 x 15.5") Soil and tears in blank margins.
5) Atlas ou Representation du Monde Universel et des Parties…, with advertisement/contents page, published by Henricus Hondius, 1633. (9 x 15.5") Colored. Creased and the right margin is defective with a small loss of image at right with a tear into the niche containing Asia.
6) Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et Fabricati Figura, published in Duisburg by Rumold Mercator, circa 1598. (9 x 15.3") Colored. It has been backed with paper for a previous binding and there is severe loss of image.
7) Le Nouveau Theatre du Monde ou Nouvel Atlas Tome Troisieme, published by Henricus Hondius, 1641 (9.3 x 15.3") Colored. There is a tear in the niche containing Magalanica and loss of the neatline and upper right corner.
8) Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et Fabricati Figura, published by Jodocus Hondius, 1607. (9.3 x 15.3") Margins defective with a hole in the bottom margin.. Both Peruana and Magalanica have been defaced to obscure their nudity.
