This map of the Black Sea was made by Ortelius on the basis of modern information presented in Mercator's maps of Southeast Europe, as well as classical sources. It is embellished with strapwork title and scale cartouches. This is from the uncommon 1606 English edition of Ortelius' great atlas, with English text on verso describing the sea.
