Detailed map from the Weekly Dispatch Atlas, covers Kanzas Territory, Nebraska Territory and part of Utah. This map is one from the six sheets making up the entire United States. It provides an excellent and highly detailed look at the region centered on the Black Hills. The Rocky Mountains and Continental Divide dominate the western portion. Good detail of the watershed and topography (in hachure) and the Nebraska, Arkansas, Grand, Green, Republican, Missouri, Yellowstone and Saskatchewan Rivers are well delineated. It is filled with place names including many forts, mountain peaks, Indian tribes and more. Locates the Gate of the Mountains, Hell Gate Pass, the Three Tetons, Goochatope Pass, Pikes Peak, and more. The emigrant road is shown with numerous important landmarks along the route noted. The routes of the proposed transcontinental railroad as surveyed by Capt. Gunnison, Lieut Beckwith and Gov. Stevens are described. An uncommon issue.
