"The Russian Empire in Asia from the Sr. D'Anville…", Bowles

This uncommon map of northeast Asia extends to include the Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin, part of China and the Japanese island of Hokkaido (Yesso or Jesso), with some coastline of the fictional Company's Land as reported by De Vries in 1643. On the Sea of Kamzatka is a note, Whenever the word Ostrog is found it signifies a Town pallasaded round to keep out the Wild Beast. The map is filled with details of rivers, mountains and forests, and a decorative cartouche fills the upper right corner. Delicate original coloring on a strong sheet of laid paper. The centerfold is faintly toned, with fold separations about 1.25" into the map at the top and bottom that have been reinforced with tissue.
