"Spanish Dominions in North America", Arrowsmith & Lewis

An uncommon map by Arrowsmith that shows an oddly shaped western coast of Mexico, names the town of Texas on the Rio Colorado or Cannes R, locates the fictional Quivira, and much more. This copper engraved map further shows numerous place names, provinces, topography, missions, towns, forts and Indian tribes. The relief is shown by hachure and the seas are fully engraved with closely placed ruled lines. A simple title cartouche floats in the lower left. A rarely offered and desirable map of the Southwest that includes the original atlas title page, which is dated 1805.

A light damp stain in the upper left corner on both sheets. The map has a spot in the Gulf of Mexico and a light damp stain in the upper left corner. The title page has moderate soiling, and some darkening along a ragged binding edge.
