A varied group of maps detail continental Africa from the 18th-19th centuries.

1) Africa has vivid original hand color. The Mountains of the Moon are named, above the largely blank southern interior. Published by Nuttall, Fisher & Dixon in Liverpool, dated 1814. The map is lightly toned with hinge remnants and a tape repair on verso. Grade B+. (9 x 7").
2) Africa is a finely engraved and delicately hand colored map with insets of Madeira and the Port of Aden. Engraved by Sidney Hall and published by A. & C. Black in Edinburgh, 1854. Faintly toned with one short marginal tear. Grade A (10.3 x 14.5").
3) Carte D'Afriqueis a small uncolored map with quite a bit of detail for the time. It is dated 1823. A few rust spots, some toning, and the edges are deckled. Grade B+. (8.3 x 7.3")
4) Afrique dressee Par M. Bonne Ingenieur-Hydrographe de la Marine. Beautifully engraved map with excellent detail of ocean currents and coastline, circa 1774, uncolored. A good impression with a faint trace of offsetting. Grade A .(12.5 x 8.3").
5) Africa from the Best Authorities. Nicely engraved map of the continent with good coastal and interior detail, circa 1820. Uncolored with some irregular toning, still a nice impression. Grade B (9 x 7.5") .
6) XL Africa Terrific map with many historical notations throughout. XLII Liberia is shown in inset. Liberia was colonized in 1822 and founded in 1843 by freed slaves. Map of Oceanica on verso. Toned and a bit of foxing. Grade B+. (10.8 x 8.3").
7) Map of Africa, Showing its most Recent Discoveries is a finely engraved map with decorative floral border and an inset of the Island of St. Helena at lower left. Published by S. A. Mitchell, Philadelphia, dated 1872. A nice impression with original hand coloring. A couple small spots in map, edges with some chips and a couple, short tears. Grade B. (13 x 10.5).
