This interesting map of the region is dominated by convoluted mountain ranges that appear to have been engraved upside-down. This woodcut map from the blocks of Laurent Fries is based on the work of Waldseemuller. This edition, edited by Michael Servetus, included a quote that was used as evidence of heresy against him. On Calvin's orders, many copies of the atlas were burned at the same time as Servetus met his end at the stake in 1553; thus maps from this edition are very scarce. Latin edition, published by Melchior and Gaspar Trechsel. The Latin title and text on verso includes a border and ornamentation attributed to Hans Holbein.
