"Topographic Atlas of the United States Physical Geography of the Texas Region", U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

A terrific atlas with twelve pages of descriptive text, 33 detailed maps printed on 6 pages and the large foldout Map of Texas and Parts of Adjoining Territories. This large and highly detailed map of the state, published in 1899, also covers most of Oklahoma and New Mexico east of the Rio Grande and south of Taos. The details include counties, county seats, railroads, topographical and watershed with contours at 250' intervals. This map is by Robert T. Hill, a widely known scholar, teacher and geologist who is credited with bringing new sophistication to Texas cartography and helped set new scientific standards for the region's cartography. This example pre-dates the 1902 version found in the USGS Gazetteer of Texas. Large folio. Complete. Original softbound in brown paper with black cloth spine.

Foldout map has a couple binding tears. A pair of fold splits repaired with tape on verso. Rest of contents near fine. Covers a bit soiled and toned. Some minor scuffing along edges. Spine and binding sound.
