Attractive steel engraved map that is filled with political and topographical detail throughout. The borders and territories during this period are very interesting and provide insight into the rapid changes taking place at the time. The large New Mexico Territory extends between California and Texas with the extension into present-day Colorado, Alaska is Russian America, Nebraska extends to the Canadian border, Minnesota includes much of the future Dakota territory, both Washington and Oregon extend to the Continental Divide, and Oklahoma is entirely Indian Territory. No sign of Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, or the Dakotas. Names Indian nations, forts, rivers, etc. With Colton's decorative strapwork-style border.
