This is a fine volume from Van der Aa's enormous quantity of travel and exploration books. This is Volume 16 and has three parts describing travels in China, Russia, Florida and the East and West Indies. This volume contains 25 folding, copper engraved plates (mostly after deBry) and two folding maps. The first map is "Reys-Togt van Aleppo over Ormus, door Indien tot in Pegu en Siam Gedaan" (9" x 6"). This map extends from the Red Sea to the Gulf of Siam as related to the travels of Caesar Frederiks, 1563. Compass rose, tablet-style cartouche with figures and water buffalo below. The second map is "Zee en Landtogt door A. Jenkinson van Astracan Gedaan na Tartarien en te Rug tot in Moscow" (9" x 6"). This map covers a wide region from Moscow in the northwest to Siberia and south to include the Caspian Sea. It illustrates the travels of Anthony Jenkinson in 1558. Fancy cartouche shows the travelers with boats and a camel. Hardbound in vellum, frontispiece and title page in black and red, another title page (b/w), nearly 300 pp of text, plates and maps.
