This large double-hemisphere world map is based on Jaillot's 1695 world map of the same title. It has been updated by Brion de la Tour to show the 18th century discoveries including the most recent ones of Captain Cook that provided the information required to complete the mapping of the northwest coastline of North America and the eastern coastlines of Australia and New Zealand. The tracks of Cook's three voyages are traced on the map. The decorative elements are the same as the original Jaillot map with the French coat of arms, angels and mermaids embellishing the cartouches.

References: cf Shirley #569 (Jaillot issue).
