Complete issue of the Whig Party's official 1846 Almanac. Blue paper covers, 64 pages, two maps, tables. Contains two maps with accompanying long articles. The Texas map shows Texas with a narrow stovepipe panhandle, and extends to include some or all of New Mexico, Indian Territory, and Missouri Territory. Together with the full text of the important "Joint Resolution for annexing Texas to the United States." The eleven-page article contains great contemporary material on Texas's statehood. Includes the full text for a series of historically related treaties including: Treaty of Independence - Paris, 1783; Jay's Treaty - 1794-95; Louisiana Treaty (with France) - 1803; Treaty of Ghent - 1814; Convention of London - 1818; Florida Treaty (with Spain) - 1819; Treaty of Boundary with Mexico - 1828; Boundary Treaty with Russia - 1824; and the North-Eastern Boundary or Ashburton Treaty - 1842.

The other map shows the disputed area of Oregon Territory, between the United States and British America. The article quotes from the Edinburgh Review to support the United States position over the so-called Oregon Boundary controversy that is often referred to as the fifty-four forty or fight dispute. The black and white full-page map shows the region from Upper California up to Fort George and west to the Continental Divide.

A fascinating political issue. On the front cover the party states they were "Barely beaten in 1844 by a fraudulent evasion of Issues and equally fraudulent polling and return of Illegal Votes … Maintains to-day the ground on which it was treacherously foiled, never fairly overthrown." Sound familiar?
