A fine woodblock plan of the city produced in the late Edo or early Meiji period. Red ink shows the extent of the great fire of November 1863. This conflagration began on the east side of the Shimmachi Bridge, spread in all directions and burned throughout the night. It is claimed that 150 city blocks and 37,000 houses were destroyed. The ink showing the range of the conflagration appears to have been added by an owner after the fact. This edition barely extends to the sea in the southwest and does not include a folding leaf to show more of the sea unlike most other plans of Osaka from this period. Well printed in black, yellow and blue indicating the numerous rivers and waterways.
