Gorgeous copper engraved map of eastern Brazil with detail confined to the coastlines and oriented with north to the right of the chart. The interior is filled with small vignettes of indigenous animals and native scenes including cannibalism. Inset within a decorative border is a small map of Baya de Todos los Sanctos. In the sea are monsters, a galleon and two compass roses. The large title cartouche features a male and female Brazilian, both of whom are shown naked. This map was originally engraved by Hondius and acquired by Blaeu in 1629 and his imprint was added next to the scales cartouche. French text on verso.
